Rebuilding the greenhouse

Several Year ago my husband bought me an old greenhouse from Craigslist. It was a great deal at only $80. I used it for two years but the sides were so cloudy from age that all of my plants got really leggy trying to grow taller to reach more light. Unfortunately, that meant that they were pretty weak when I transplanted them to the garden and they struggled.

This fall, we decided to tear out the old green walls and replace them with new clean greenhouse walls. The first step was to remove all of the trim around the edges. This turned out to be the hardest part of the whole project! The trim was held down with some sort of industrial glue that was a struggle to remove. We were hoping to reuse the trim but ended up having to tear it apart to get it off of the building.

The next step was to remove the sides. This was just a matter of removing screws, which we saved to use on the new walls.

Finally we were down to a bare frame. It was light enough that we were able to easily remove it for a moment so were could mow the grass down really low.

We had been saving a plastic floor from an old shed that was the perfect fit so we laid that down. Now I won’t be fighting weeds and grass inside the greenhouse anymore.

We replaced the frame and used the existing screws to attach the new walls to the greenhouse and rehung the door. Now I have a ‘brand new’ greenhouse! I am so excited to use it this spring for all of my garden starts.
